Kramgasse is the central artery of Bern's UNESCO-listed Old Town, a cobblestoned street running east from the Zytglogge clock tower, lined with 6 kilometres of covered arcades (Lauben), ornate Renaissance fountains, and cellar shops. It is the living heart of medieval Bern.

The Matte Quarter sits at the foot of the Old Town cliff, directly on the banks of the Aar river. Once an industrial district of tanners and blacksmiths, it has evolved into a residential neighbourhood with a relaxed, off-the-beaten-path atmosphere and a strong sense of local identity.

The Länggasse Quarter is Bern's university district, stretching west of the Old Town. With the University of Bern and several institutes nearby, it has a youthful, multicultural energy and is home to many of the city's independent restaurants, bookshops, and creative spaces.
