Activities in Naples

The Lungomare (Via Caracciolo) is Naples' 2.5 km waterfront promenade, sweeping along the bay from Castel dell'Ovo to Mergellina with uninterrupted views of Vesuvius and the islands.

The Posillipo coastline is a clifftop promontory west of Naples, offering some of the most beautiful views in southern Italy. Walking from Marechiaro to Parco Virgiliano takes you past fishermen's coves, villa gardens, and the panorama of Capri.

Hiking to the crater of Mount Vesuvius is a short but dramatic excursion from Naples—a 30-minute walk from the car park at 1,000 metres to the 1,281-metre summit, where you peer into the steaming crater and across the Bay of Naples.
