Samarkand Boulevard (officially University Boulevard) is a 1.5-km tree-lined pedestrian promenade connecting the modern city center to the approach to the Registan. It is the city's main evening gathering place, with fountains, benches, and cafés lining both sides. The boulevard offers a pleasant walking route between the new and old towns.
The boulevard was laid out during the Soviet era as part of Samarkand's modern urban plan, creating a formal axis between the new administrative center and the historic old town. It has been renovated and landscaped several times since independence.
