Chashma-Ayub ('Spring of Job') is a medieval mausoleum and sacred spring, now housing the Bukhara Water Museum. Its distinctive conical Khorezmian-style dome makes it stand out among Bukhara's monuments. According to legend, the prophet Job struck his staff on this spot and water sprang forth.
The mausoleum was built in 1384 by Timur (Tamerlane), who added the distinctive Khorezmian-style dome after conquering Khiva. Earlier sections date to the 12th century. The building was converted into a water museum in the 2000s to educate visitors about the critical role of water infrastructure in sustaining a desert city.
