Overview
Every Sunday from 16:00 to 22:00, Thalang Road in Old Town is closed to traffic and transforms into a lively walking street market. The Sino-Portuguese shophouse backdrop gives it a distinctly atmospheric setting unique among Phuket's markets.
Highlights
- Local Food: Sample authentic Phuket dishes — lobah (five-spice pork roll), o-tao (oyster omelette), and fresh roti with condensed milk.
- Artisan Crafts: Local artisans sell batik, coconut-shell artwork, handmade soaps, and Thai herbal products.
- Live Performances: Street musicians and traditional dance performances along the route.
History
The Sunday Walking Street was launched in 2013 as part of Phuket Town's cultural revival efforts, modelled on the successful walking streets of Chiang Mai.
Visitor Tips
- Arrive early: The best food sells out by 20:00.
