Highlights
- Soi Romanee: A narrow lane of pastel-painted buildings that was once Phuket's red-light district; today it's the most Instagrammed street on the island.
- Street Art: Over 20 large-scale murals by Thai and international artists decorate walls throughout the neighbourhood.
- Sunday Walking Street: Every Sunday from 16:00 to 22:00, Thalang Road closes to traffic and fills with food stalls, crafts, and live music.
History
The district boomed during the tin mining era of the 1820s–1920s, attracting Hokkien Chinese merchants whose architectural style blended Southern Chinese, Malay, and European colonial influences. Many mansions were converted to shophouses after the tin market collapsed.
