The Sapporo Beer Museum is Japan's only museum dedicated to beer, housed in the 1890 red-brick Kaitakushi Brewery building. It traces the history of Japanese brewing from the Meiji era through interactive exhibits, archival photographs, and original brewing equipment. The museum itself is free, with an optional paid tasting lounge.
The building was originally a sugar refinery built by the Kaitakushi (Hokkaido Development Commission) in 1876, later converted to a brewery in 1903. Sapporo Breweries opened the museum in 1987 to showcase Hokkaido's signature industry. The famous Sapporo star logo derives from the Kaitakushi's official emblem.
