Samarkand's Silk Carpet Workshop is a family-run atelier where visitors can watch master weavers create traditional Uzbek silk and wool carpets by hand. The workshop produces both classic Timurid-pattern carpets and modern designs using natural dyes derived from pomegranate, walnut, and indigo. The showroom displays finished carpets for sale.
El-Merosi is a nightly sound-and-light spectacle projected onto the façade of the Registan's three madrasas. The 45-minute show uses high-definition projection mapping, orchestral music, and narration to tell the story of Samarkand from the Silk Road era through Timur's conquests. It is one of the most spectacular ways to experience the Registan.
Konigil Meros ('Heritage') is a traditional paper mill on the outskirts of Samarkand that revives the medieval technique of making paper from mulberry bark. Samarkand was historically the first city to produce paper outside China, and this workshop demonstrates the entire process — from soaking bark to pressing and drying sheets. Visitors can try making paper themselves.
