La Jolla Cove is a small, sheltered cove surrounded by sandstone cliffs in the affluent community of La Jolla. Crystal-clear water, resident sea lions, and a protected marine reserve make it one of the most photographed spots in Southern California.
La Jolla Cove has been a protected swimming area since 1929. The surrounding marine reserve was established in 1971, allowing marine life to flourish. The cove's popularity exploded with the growth of San Diego tourism in the 2000s.
