Cabrillo National Monument sits at the southern tip of Point Loma, commemorating Juan Rodríguez Cabrillo's 1542 landing — the first European expedition along the West Coast. The monument offers panoramic views of the San Diego skyline, harbor, and Coronado Islands.
Cabrillo landed at this point in September 1542, claiming the land for Spain. The monument was established in 1913, and the 14-foot statue of Cabrillo (a gift from Portugal) was erected in 1949.
