Washington Park

Overview

Washington Park is Portland's flagship park, a 160-acre green space in the West Hills containing the Japanese Garden, Rose Test Garden, Oregon Zoo, Hoyt Arboretum, and the World Forestry Center. It is the cultural and recreational heart of the city.

History

Established in 1871, Washington Park is one of the oldest parks west of the Mississippi. It has grown from a simple public green to a densely programmed cultural campus. The underground MAX station, opened in 1998, connects the park to downtown.

• Take the MAX to the underground station — it's faster and avoids parking hassles.
• A full day is needed to visit all five attractions.
