St. Johns Bridge is Portland's most beautiful bridge, a Gothic-style suspension bridge spanning the Willamette River with twin 120-meter towers rising above Cathedral Park. Its distinctive pointed arches are unlike any other bridge in the United States.
Designed by David Steinman and opened in 1931, the bridge was named after the St. Johns neighborhood it connects. Its Gothic design was chosen to complement the neighborhood's historic character. The original green paint was selected by residents.
