Overview

The Oregon Museum of Science and Industry (OMSI) is a major hands-on science center on the east bank of the Willamette River. Its five exhibition halls, planetarium, and submarine tour make it one of the top science museums on the West Coast.

Highlights

• USS Blueback Submarine: The last non-nuclear submarine in the U.S. Navy fleet — featured in "The Hunt for Red October."

History

Founded in 1944, OMSI moved to its current waterfront location in 1992. The building was designed by Zimmer Gunsul Frasca and incorporates sustainable design principles. The USS Blueback has been moored alongside since 1994.

• The submarine tour requires a separate ticket — book ahead as spaces are limited.
• OMSI After Dark (monthly) offers adults-only evening events with cocktails.
