Overview

The Museum of Fine Arts (MFA) is one of the largest art museums in the United States, housing over 500,000 works spanning ancient Egyptian artifacts to contemporary installations. Founded in 1870, it anchors Boston's Fenway cultural district.

History

The MFA was established in 1870 at Copley Square before moving to its current Huntington Avenue building in 1909, designed by Guy Lowell in Beaux-Arts style. The 2010 Art of the Americas Wing, designed by Norman Foster, added 53 galleries.
