Mount Bonnell is the highest point within Austin city limits at 240 meters elevation, offering panoramic views of Lake Austin, the Hill Country, and the city skyline. A steep limestone staircase of 102 steps leads to the summit.
Named after George W. Bonnell, the first Commissioner of Indian Affairs for the Republic of Texas, the site has been a popular destination since the 1850s. It became a city park in the early 20th century.
