Playa Langosta is a sheltered, family-oriented beach in the northern Hotel Zone, where the L-shaped barrier island creates a calm bay with minimal wave action. It shares its name with the adjacent ferry terminal.
One of the first beaches developed when Cancún was planned in 1970, Playa Langosta ("lobster beach") was named for the Caribbean spiny lobsters once abundant in the shallows. It remains one of the best-maintained public beaches.
