Baluardo San Donato is the westernmost bastion of Lucca's wall circuit, offering a wide grassy terrace with sweeping views toward the Apuan Alps and the setting sun. Less visited than more central stretches, it offers a peaceful escape.
The bastion was completed as part of the final phase of wall construction in the early 17th century. Its elevated, flat surface was designed to mount artillery but was never used in conflict.
