Maçka Democracy Park

Overview

Maçka Democracy Park is an elongated green corridor between Taksim Square and Beşiktaş, straddled by a cable-car line and crossed by joggers, dog-walkers and families at all hours.

• Aerial cable car: A short gondola ride connects the park's hilltop entrance to Taksim, with rooftop views en route.
• Running paths: Flat, shaded gravel paths loop through the park—popular morning and evening.

History

Originally the grounds of an Ottoman military barracks, the park was progressively opened to the public through the 20th century and renamed Democracy Park after the 2016 events.
