POSCO History Museum

Overview

The POSCO History Museum, located on the POSCO campus in southern Pohang, tells the story of how a small fishing town became the home of the world's fourth-largest steelmaker. Interactive displays cover the full arc from Korea's post-war industrialisation to POSCO's current green-steel initiatives.

Highlights

• Miracle on the Hyeongsan River: The centrepiece exhibit recounts how POSCO was founded in 1968 with Japanese reparation funds and grew into a global giant.
• Steel Innovation Gallery: Hands-on displays on steelmaking processes, from blast furnaces to FINEX technology.
• Free Admission: The museum is free and open to the public (except Sundays and Mondays).

History

POSCO (Pohang Iron and Steel Company) was established in 1968 and produced its first steel in 1973. The company's rapid growth drove Pohang's transformation from a town of 60,000 to a city of 500,000. The museum opened in 2003 to celebrate POSCO's 35th anniversary.
