Overview
Songdo International Business District is Korea's boldest experiment in urban planning — a 6 km² smart city built from scratch on reclaimed tidal land since 2003. Skyscrapers, green corridors, and a seawater canal make it one of the most photogenic urban environments in East Asia.
Highlights
- Central Park: A 40-hectare green heart with deer enclosures, rabbit islands, and a tidal canal.
- Skyline walk: Northeast Tower, G-Tower and the POSCO headquarters create a dramatic cluster visible across the district.
- NC Cube Canal Walk: An open-air shopping mall along the canal with both Korean and international brands.
History
The land was reclaimed starting in 1994, and Songdo was master-planned as Korea's answer to purpose-built international hubs like Dubai's DIFC. It hosts the Green Climate Fund headquarters and several UN agencies.
