Gyochon Traditional Village is a compact hanok neighbourhood in central Gyeongju, best known as the legendary birthplace of the Gyeongju Choi clan and the home of Korea's most famous traditional bread, Gyeongju-ppang. The restored lane of tiled-roof houses now blends heritage, craft shops, and eateries.
The village occupies the site where, according to the Samguk Yusa, the nobleman Choe Chi-won settled after the fall of Silla. The Choi family maintained the estate through the Joseon dynasty. In the 2010s, the Gyeongju city government restored several structures and opened the neighbourhood to tourism while some residents still live on-site.
