Versova Beach stretches along the Arabian Sea on Mumbai's western coast, a working fishing village beach that became famous for a citizen-led cleanup that removed 5.3 million kg of rubbish between 2015–2019.
Versova was a Koli fishing village for centuries before suburban expansion swallowed it. The beach gained international attention when lawyer Afroz Shah organised what became the world's largest beach cleanup, recognised by the United Nations in 2016.
