Maharashtra Nature Park

Overview

Maharashtra Nature Park is a 37-acre green refuge in Dharavi-Mahim, built on a former garbage dump. Its reclaimed forest, butterfly garden, and nature trails make it an improbable urban oasis in one of the world's most densely populated neighbourhoods.

History

Established in 1994 on the site of a municipal garbage dump adjacent to Dharavi, the park was reclaimed through a community-driven reforestation initiative. It demonstrates successful urban ecology restoration.

• Closed Mondays: Open Tuesday–Sunday, 7 AM – 6 PM.
• Bring binoculars: The bird-watching is surprisingly excellent.
• Duration: 1–1.5 hours.
