Muara Angke Wildlife Reserve is a 25-hectare mangrove forest on Jakarta's northwestern coast, protecting one of the last pockets of natural coastline in the metropolitan area. It's a haven for birdwatchers, with over 90 species recorded.
The reserve was established in 1998 to protect Jakarta's shrinking mangrove ecosystem. Management was taken over by conservation NGOs in partnership with the provincial government, and it remains a critical green lung for the city.
