Hutan Kota GBK

Overview

Hutan Kota GBK (Gelora Bung Karno Urban Forest) is a green pocket within the national sports complex in Senayan, offering shaded jogging paths, a cycling track, and canopy walks beneath towering rain trees and mahogany.

Highlights

• Canopy Walk: A 400-metre elevated boardwalk through the tree canopy.
• Morning Joggers: The 2 km loop around the forest is one of Jakarta's favourite running routes.
• Bird watching: Over 20 bird species recorded within the urban forest, including sunbirds and tailorbirds.

History

The green space was developed as part of the 2018 Asian Games infrastructure upgrade, transforming underused sections of the GBK complex into a modern urban park with environmental education facilities.

Visitor Tips

• Early mornings (6–8 AM) are best — the forest is cool and active.
• Free entry but you need to register.
• Duration: 45–60 minutes.
