Overview

Jalan Cikini Raya is Jakarta's arts and intellectual corridor, connecting Gondangdia to Taman Ismail Marzuki. The tree-lined boulevard is flanked by galleries, indie bookshops, early-20th-century villas, and some of the city's most creative dining spaces.

History

Cikini takes its name from "ci" (water) and "kini" (now) in Sundanese. In the colonial period, it was home to Dutch administrators; post-independence, it became the cultural heartbeat of Jakarta's intelligentsia, anchored by the founding of TIM in 1968.
