Yangshuo Climbing

Overview

Yangshuo has become one of Asia's top sport-climbing destinations, with over 1,000 bolted routes on karst limestone towers ranging from beginner-friendly 5a to elite 9a. The climbing community is well-established with local guides and gear rental.

• Swiss Cheese Wall: Overhanging tufas and pockets — a Yangshuo signature.

History

American climber Todd Skinner opened the first sport routes here in 1992. By 2010, Yangshuo had grown into China's premier climbing destination.

• Best season: October–March (cooler, drier).
• Duration: Half-day or full-day with a guide.
