Overview

Dongxixiang (East-West Lane) is a narrow alley district in central Guilin that blends restored Qing-dynasty stone shophouses with modern craft studios, tea rooms, and boutique galleries — a living snapshot of old Guilin.

• Restored shophouses: Grey-brick buildings with carved lintels.
• Local crafts: Hand-painted fans, Guilin three-flower liquor, osmanthus candy.
• Evening atmosphere: Lantern-lit alleys and street musicians after dark.

History

The lanes date to the Ming dynasty and were a commercial hub until wartime destruction. Restoration was completed in 2016.

• Visit in the evening: The lantern atmosphere is much stronger after 18:00.
