The Zangiata Memorial Complex is a revered pilgrimage site south of Tashkent, centered on the mausoleum of Zangi Ata, a 13th-century Sufi saint considered the patron saint of cattle herders and one of the most beloved spiritual figures in Uzbek Islam.
Zangi Ata (Sheikh Ai-Khodja) lived in the 13th century during the Mongol period and was a disciple of the great Sufi master Ahmed Yassawi. The mausoleum complex was built in the 14th century, destroyed by Timur, and rebuilt by his order. It has been a pilgrimage site for over 700 years.
