Kukeldash Madrasah is the largest surviving historical madrasah in Tashkent, built in the 16th century during the Shaybanid dynasty. Its towering façade overlooks Chorsu Bazaar, creating an iconic juxtaposition of commerce and scholarship.
Built around 1570 by Kukeldash, the finance minister of the Shaybanid khan, the madrasah once housed hundreds of Islamic students. Over the centuries it served variously as a caravanserai, fortress, and execution site. It was heavily restored in the 20th century and again in the 2000s.
