The Manila Metropolitan Theater — locally known as the Met — is an Art Deco masterpiece on Padre Burgos Avenue, completed in 1931 and considered one of the finest examples of the style in Southeast Asia. After decades of decay, a comprehensive restoration was completed in 2021, returning the building to its original grandeur.
Designed by Filipino architect Juan Arellano and inaugurated on December 10, 1931, the Met hosted opera, ballet, and zarzuela (Filipino musical theater). It fell into disuse after World War II and was declared a National Cultural Treasure in 2010. The National Commission for Culture and the Arts completed its full restoration in 2021.
