Pashupatinath Temple is one of the most sacred Hindu temples in the world, dedicated to Lord Shiva. Located on the banks of the Bagmati River, this sprawling complex of temples, ashrams, and cremation ghats is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the spiritual heart of Nepal.
The temple's origins date to at least 400 CE, though legend places it much earlier. The current pagoda-style structure was built by King Ananda Malla in 1692 after the previous one was consumed by termites. It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979.
