Balaju Water Garden is a historic garden on the northern edge of Kathmandu featuring a row of 22 carved stone water spouts (hiti) and a reclining Vishnu statue. It is a popular local recreation spot with swimming pools and landscaped grounds.
The water spouts were built during the 18th century by various Malla and Shah kings. The garden was developed as a public park in the 20th century. The 22 spouts are considered auspicious and draw pilgrims on special occasions.
