Pantai Cenang is Langkawi's busiest and most popular beach, a 2-kilometre stretch of white sand on the island's southwest coast. It's the social hub of the island, lined with restaurants, water sports operators, duty-free shops, and beach bars — Langkawi's answer to a tropical boardwalk.
Pantai Cenang developed rapidly after Langkawi was declared a duty-free zone in 1987. What was once a quiet fishing village beach transformed into the island's main tourist strip in the 1990s and 2000s, though it retains stretches of natural beauty between the developed areas.
