Mahsuri's Tomb is Langkawi's most culturally significant site, dedicated to a legendary Malay princess who was unjustly accused of adultery and executed in the 18th century. Her dying curse — that Langkawi would know no peace for seven generations — is woven into the island's identity.
Mahsuri, born around 1762, was a beautiful young woman married to a warrior. While her husband was away at war, she was accused of adultery — allegedly by a jealous mother-in-law. Despite her innocence, she was sentenced to death. As the keris dagger pierced her heart, she bled white blood, proving her purity. Her curse was fulfilled as Langkawi suffered Thai invasions and economic hardship for generations.
