Gunung Raya Hiking Trail

Overview

The Gunung Raya hiking trail is a challenging jungle trek to the summit of Langkawi's highest peak at 881 metres. The trail winds through pristine lowland and montane rainforest, passing strangler figs, pitcher plants, and offering chances to spot hornbills, macaques, and Dusky Leaf monkeys.

History

Gunung Raya was long considered inaccessible to casual visitors until a road was built to the summit telecommunications tower. The original jungle trail, used by indigenous communities, was later marked and maintained for intrepid hikers, though it remains challenging and infrequently guided.
