Overview
Chinggis Khaan Square (formerly Sükhbaatar Square) is the vast central plaza of Ulaanbaatar, flanked by the Government Palace with its monumental seated statue of Chinggis Khaan. At 31,068 sq m, it is the civic heart of Mongolia and the site of national celebrations.

History
The square was built in 1946 during the Soviet era and named after Sükhbaatar, the father of Mongolian independence from China. It was officially renamed Chinggis Khaan Square in 2013 to honour the founder of the Mongol Empire.
