Overview

Strand Road runs along the northern bank of the Yangon River, offering a working waterfront promenade with views of cargo ships, river ferries, and fishing boats. The road is lined with some of Yangon's most significant colonial buildings, including the Customs House and the historic Strand Hotel. Walking this stretch in the late afternoon provides riverine breezes and a sense of the city's maritime heritage.

History

Strand Road has been Yangon's commercial lifeline since the British developed the city as a major port in the 19th century.
