History
Inya Lake has been central to Yangon's geography since the city's founding. British administrators developed its shores for residential use in the colonial period. The lake's banks were the site of student protest movements in 1962, 1974, 1988, and 2021. Aung San Suu Kyi's residence on University Avenue borders the lake's western shore.
