Tête de Chien (Dog's Head) is a dramatic rocky promontory rising 550 metres above Monaco, offering the most expansive aerial views of the principality and the French-Italian Riviera. Although technically in the neighbouring French commune of La Turbie, it is Monaco's most iconic elevated viewpoint.
The summit takes its name from a rock formation resembling a dog's head. Napoleon ordered a military lookout built here due to its strategic command of the entire coast. The military abandoned the fort in the 20th century, and it became a popular viewpoint for tourists and photographers.
