History
The stadium opened in 1985 on reclaimed land in Fontvieille, replacing the original Stade Louis II in La Condamine. It was designed to maximise use of limited space, with multiple sports facilities stacked within the complex. It also hosted the UEFA Super Cup annually from 1998 to 2012.
