Highlights
- Port Panorama: Look down over the entire port with its superyachts, the Grand Prix circuit, and Monte Carlo's skyline beyond.
- Sunset Views: The westward orientation makes this an ideal sunset spot, with the sun setting over Cap d'Ail and the Esterel mountains.
- Historical Context: View the landscape that explains Monaco's entire geography from a single vantage point.
History
The Place du Palais has served as Monaco's primary lookout since the fortress was built in 1215. The strategic elevation allowed defenders to spot approaching ships. Today, the same elevation provides visitors with the principality's most photographed viewpoint.
