Number 11, 33rd Lane is the former Colombo residence of Geoffrey Bawa (1919–2003), Sri Lanka's most influential architect and the father of tropical modernism. Now a museum-house, guided tours reveal the inventive spatial sequences that defined his practice.
Bawa purchased and progressively merged four adjacent row houses from the 1960s onward, creating a single meandering residence that embodied his philosophy of blurring inside and outside. The house was opened as a museum after his death.
