Panfilov Park is a leafy urban park in central Almaty named after the 28 Panfilov Guardsmen who defended Moscow in 1941. Shaded by towering oaks and poplars, it houses the Zenkov Cathedral, the Eternal Flame war memorial, and the Musical Instruments Museum.
Originally called Starokladbishchenskoye (Old Cemetery) Park, it was renamed in 1942 to honour the Panfilov Division. The park was redesigned in the Soviet era as a memorial space and has remained one of Almaty's most cherished green areas.
