Gorky Park (officially the Central Park of Culture and Rest) is Almaty's most popular urban park, a Soviet-era green space with mature tree-lined alleys, a Ferris wheel, amusement rides, and an ice rink in winter.
The park was established in the 1856 as the Government Garden and renamed after Maxim Gorky in 1934. It has been the city's primary recreation ground for over 160 years, evolving through each era of Almaty's history.
