Hallim Park is a large botanical and geological park on Jeju's western coast, combining subtropical gardens, two interconnected lava caves (Hyeopjaegul and Ssangyonggul), a folk village, and specialty gardens. The park has been developed over 40 years from barren lava fields into lush gardens.
Hallim Park was established in 1971 when Jeju pioneer Song Bong-gyu began planting trees on barren volcanic land. Over four decades, the site was transformed from lifeless lava fields into a lush 88-acre botanical garden. The lava caves were discovered during park development and incorporated into the visitor experience.
