Wolmido Island

Overview

Wolmido is a small island connected to central Incheon by a 1-kilometre causeway, famous for its seafood boardwalk, amusement park rides, and panoramic Yellow Sea views. Once a military stronghold during the Korean War, it has been transformed into one of the city's favourite leisure destinations. The waterfront promenade comes alive at sunset with fairground lights and the aroma of grilled shellfish.

History

Wolmido saw fierce bombardment during the September 1950 Incheon Landing, which turned the tide of the Korean War. After demilitarisation in the 1980s, the island was developed for tourism and the causeway was completed in 2001.

Visitor Tips

• Tip 1: Arrive an hour before sunset to walk the boardwalk and watch the sky change colour over the sea.
• Tip 2: Theme-park rides are individually ticketed (₩3,000–₩5,000 each), so you can choose only the ones you want.
• Duration: 2–3 hours.
