The Incheon Metropolitan City Museum is the city's principal museum of history and culture, spanning prehistory through the modern era. Its permanent galleries trace Incheon's evolution from Neolithic shell middens through the open-port period to its current status as a metropolitan hub.
Founded in 1946, the museum is one of Korea's oldest municipal museums. It relocated to its current purpose-built facility in Yeonsu-gu in 2006, with expanded galleries and conservation labs.
