The Gyeongin Ara Waterway is an 18-kilometre canal connecting the lower Han River to the Yellow Sea at Incheon's Seo-gu district. Flanked by a dedicated bike path and waterfront promenades, it is one of the best cycling routes in the metropolitan area. Seasonal river cruises, water-sports zones, and landscaped rest areas make it a popular day-trip destination.
First proposed in the Joseon dynasty to link Seoul with the western coast, the canal was finally completed in 2012 at a cost of ₩2.2 trillion. It serves both flood-control and leisure functions, though commercial shipping remains limited.
