Overview

Songdo International Business District is a purpose-built smart city rising on 6 square kilometres of reclaimed tidal land. Designed from scratch as a sustainable urban laboratory, it features LEED-certified skyscrapers, pneumatic waste-disposal systems, and ubiquitous digital connectivity. Walking its wide avenues and waterfront parks feels like visiting a city from the near future.

History

Songdo's masterplan was launched in 2003 by a joint venture of Gale International, POSCO E&C, and the Incheon Free Economic Zone. The first residents moved in around 2009, and development continues through the 2030s.

Visitor Tips

• Tip 1: Start at G Tower's free observation deck for orientation, then walk south through Central Park.
• Tip 2: The district is best explored on foot or by bicycle — it was designed for walkability.
